Houston, fourth largest city in the U.S., is a leader in technology, business, entertainment, and the arts. Home of NASA’s Johnson Space Center and the largest concentration of medical professionals in the world, the city is known for its cutting-edge research and technology development. It is also renowned for its superb arts and entertainment scene. Houston houses five major league sports teams, including the 2005 National League Champion Houston Astros. Our Museum District is home to 15 institutions, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the sixth largest museum in the country, and the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Houston is one of only five cities in the U.S. with resident companies in the four disciplines of the performing arts, all found within the 17-block Theater District in downtown Houston.

A ride on the METRO Light Rail from downtown will take SCES’07 participants through the Texas Medical Center, the Museum District, Rice University, and the Houston Zoo. Other area attractions include Space Center Houston, the official visitors’ center for NASA/JSC; the Kemah Boardwalk; the Downtown Aquarium; and historic Galveston Island. Houston offers entertainment day and night, with international cuisine available within walking distance of the SCES’07 conference site, the Hilton Americas-Houston. We invite you to our vibrant city and look forward to hosting you at SCES’07.
